Tricolor Stromanthe

Description

White, green, pink, and purplish-red dominate the ginger-like foliage of this cousin of the Prayer Plant creating a colorful addition for warm and humid garden settings or indoors. The Tricolor Stromanthe will thrive on nearly any shaded patio or garden and makes for a wonderful container plant that never gets too big. Grow it in the ground where hardy providing good drainage in a rich soil and regular, even moisture.
The Stromanthe multiplies readily and can be used as a groundcover under larger plants. Known to return from a light freeze once the soil temperatures are sufficiently warm enough but it may be best to protect the foliage from freezing temperatures. Like the Prayer Plant the Stromanthe closes its leaves up at night and shows off the bright purplish-red leaf undersides adding to its interest.
